Thanks, MIT!

On behalf of Andre and Mike, I'd like to extend my thanks to Dr. Jeremy Shapiro for hosting the Demand Driven Supply Chain course at MIT's Professional Institute on July 19th and 20th and for giving us the opportunity to speak about Flowcasting.

Staying in the dorm overnight was a real blast (except for the guy above us who decided to start dribbling a basketball at midnight!). Despite the lack of sleep, I thought the talk was very well received and we had a lot of great questions from the audience. In fact, we've been invited back next year, so mark your calendars!

Air Conditioning and Cable TV

Years ago we were talking with a client of ours and somehow the discussion swung to world peace. Our client quickly proclaimed he had a simple solution. “Provide air conditioning and cable TV to everyone.”

While it’s perhaps a bit far fetched to think that would settle everyone down, it does highlight that often different thinking is required to solve a chronic problem.

The same is true in supply chain planning. Did anyone think that, in order to improve forecast accuracy, the answer is to eliminate virtually all forecasting?
